I did this 20 years ago to a Minolta Hi-Matic. I don't remember very
many of the details. I took it apart, found the photocell, removed it,
ordered a new one from Allied Radio Electronic in Chicago (since gone
out of business, I think), installed it, and reassembled the camera. I
needed to mess with the calibration oh-so-slightly.
