The M4-2 was made in the Leitz plant in Canada for a couple of years in
the late 1970s, and the lower prices vis a vis M4's can be attributed to a
couple of things: collector disdain for anything not manufactured in
Wetzlar, or a belief by some users that the quality control in the Canadian
plant wasn't as good as in Wetzlar. I own an M4-2 (bought it used) and its
always worked fine. I got flamed on a newsgroup a couple of months ago when
I expressed the former viewpoint (collector disdain) by some guy who said
every M4-2 he'd encountered was junk.
