If you are going to Solms I suggest you stop in at the town of Braunfels and 
visit the castle Braunfels.  There is a tour of this castle which I found 
interesting.  You might develop a sense of deja vu as you visit the castle as 
Leica used to use photos taken near the entrance gates in their brochures.  
Wetzlar is not too far from Solms and it is a nice little town especially the 
older section and the cathedral along with the Leitz factory. The following link

Regarding those bargains at the factory I have never experienced them.  What 
they do have are the Leica boutique items, a lot of brochures, of course the 
Leica family tree display and a photo gallery of sorts.  What I might suggest is
that you contact Leica at Solms, and ask if you can have a tour of the facility 
when you visit.

I have a question - is there a simple rule - like a specific altitude - 
telling you when one should use an UV filter with Leica glass for optimum 
results? Also, at high altitudes, I would want to use a brownish filter 
(Like KR3 or KR6) anyway to deal with the blue cast - would such a filter 
also deal with the UV?
     
An update on my ailing M6 - I spoke to the very nice local distributor, 
they'll arrange for me to go to Solms and have the camera looked at and 
hopefully exchanged the same day. I am impressed by this attitude, can't 
wait to finally have a perfect Leica. So, if I am already going there, what 
would you recommend that I go visit/see there? Any bargains to be made at 
the factory outlet?
