How about the 180mm f/3.4 APO which was developed on US military order? 
But that was for the protection of peace, not the conduct of war :-)

Of course, many Leicas were used during WW II, but that was only normal 
and nothing to be shamed about. In fact, it was the living proof that 
Leicas are solidly built and had already excellent optics at that time 
(Leicas were used, amongst others, for airborne reconnaissance).
:-)

There is nothing fundamentally wrong about cameras and lenses being used 
for military purposes. It just adds to the recognition of excellence.
