The performance at 1.4 is notably better than the old Summicron at f 2.0, and comparable to the new ASPH Summicron at f 2.0. Both ASPH lenses are superb, even at full aperture. The old Summicron is poor at full aperture, but improves dramatically at f2.8, to nearly perfect at f 3.5. The primary defect in the old model is with edge quality from f2.0-f2.8, and light fall off and flare at f 2.0. I have been properly flamed for my opinions of the old Summicron in the past and will no doubt feel the heat again.
