Get your money back and run like the wind!!  If the rangefinder
is desilvering it will not be worth the cost to repair this camera.

It sounds like someone has been into this camera who didn't know what they 
were doing.  You could spend months and hundreds of dollars getting this 
thing working right, and still only have a camera worth 300 bucks..
