Subject: [Leica] Design defect or operator error?

All,

To my horror, my new Apo 90 "acquired" two marks which looked like
"(      )" in the center of the front element, spaced about a
dime's-width apart. Fortunately, they buffed out (much rubbing w/Leica
microfibre cloth), only to return! What gives? 

Curiously, I have discovered that the (raised) back of the lens cap
seems to be hitting the protruding front element. Either the front
element extends too far forward or the lens cap extends too far
backward. Or is it me?
