This came up a few months ago. I believe the story was some of the first
bodies made at Solms  did not have "LEICA" on the front, just an enlarged
"M6".

I'm sure someone will verify this.

Yes, I presently own a silver chrome M6 with this engraving and I have owned
a black body thus marked.  Both purchased in the mid eighties.  Otherwise
exactly the same as other M6s, they appear to have no additional value for
variant markings...at least I for one use(d) them for taking pictures.
