Bill,

If you intend to use it on the new 35-70/2,8, I think that the Nikon
Circular Polar 77mm will be a good choice.
It was designed for the Nikkor AFD 20-35/2,8.
On one side it's 77mm and on the front side it's 82mm.
Less vignetting.
