My LS-2000 was defective right out of the box, and the LS-30 is showing odd behavior at times as well. Nikon has told me that it may cost as much as $600 to repair their manufacturing defect. Others have told me that the rate of returns on the Coolscan scanners runs as high as 40%. All the _other_ products I've bought from Nikon have been free of defects. Their scanners, however, are a mass of defects, it seems. They do an extremely nice job (better than any competitor) when they work, but they only work about half the time. -- Anthony
