Subject: [Leica] Re: Metering at working aperture

My thanks to everyone who replied. The solution was, in the words of
Jim Brick <jimbrick@photoaccess.com>

>Meter the same as normal, except the viewfinder will get dark as you
stop down. But it all works perfectly.

However, it may not be not quite that simple. Sitting last night in my
study, poring through many a volume of forgotten Leica lore, I came
across a brief description of a similar process process in
Kisselbach's "Leicaflex Book". He's talking about using single-cam
lenses on the SL, and notes that "Because the new [TTL] measuring
system starts from a limit stop, which is not incorporated in these
lenses, a small deviation will occur. You can compensate for this by
rating the film speed slower by 2 DIN." A similar note in the 15th
edition of "The Leica Manual" suggests derating the film speed by
half.

Doug Richardson
