Dave, not that I'm a regular user of these ;-), but if you grab both
round parts and rotate in opposing directions (counter-clockwise as you
look head-on to one), it should kind of "pop" in about one-eigth of a
turn. Then, you'll be able to telescope (or compress them) together.
Once you have gotten the right width (I think there is one other format
between 35mm and 2-1/4) then rotate the "roundy things" in the opposite
way till they "pop" again (locking). Clear as mud?
