Hi Bill,
Yes I was on it for my first LHSA shoot. The attendance seemed to be good
(about 25 people) with attendees from upstate New York, Chicago and i think
Michigan. Even though it was kind of drizzly weather wise we still all got
out on the streets of Washington even though much of it was closed down
because of the IMF demonstrations. I got to play with a new black paint M6
Millenium with a TA rapid wind, an awesome camera. I seemed to pair off most
of the time with Sal DiMarco. And late Saturday afternoon we (along with
somebody named Kevin) followed a large group of protesters. I lost Sal and
Kevin and then ended up being trapped by the police with 600 demonstraters
at 20th & K. They sealed off one end and as the protesters (and press)
entered the block the police then sealed off the other end not letting
anybody out (totally unconstitutional). I was in there for two hours burning
film but it was getting increasingly tense and scary. Then the police
announced that if any media wanted to leave to do it now. Sensing was coming
I got out of there and heard later that night on the news that they had
arrested over 600 demonstrators and members of the media including Pulitzer
winning PJ Carol Guzy. That was a clear violation of first amendment rights.
But, I got some fantastic photos.
