It might be possible to get more than 2700dpi along the length of the frame, but the resolution across the width is defined by the sensor hardware. Having said that, some software (like Genuine Fractals) can make up astonishingly believable information. I've done digital sectional enlargements from a 2700dpi Nikon scan equivalent to over 40 inch prints from full frame. Not as good as a darkroom enlargement, but impressive nevertheless.
