If I were one of the more active Leica dealers and suddenly the factory was competing with me directly, I wouldn't sell Leica anymore. The camera business isn't the same as the computer business. IMHO, the distribution method isn't the problem. If Nikon, et al, can be successful selling thru disty, then Leica can too. If they aren't profitable, then its internal changes are required (getting overhead lower, lowering prices to increase volume which gets back dealer interest, etc.) Lastly, in many countries (Japan to name one large market) the disty method is entrenched and selling direct would be the beginning of the end for Leica in that market.
