The focus mechanism hunts like crazy in very low light - I know because I have used an F5 for three years. The SB28 flash with the IR emission helps as the AF has something to focus on but I do not use the F5 for any non-flash low light photography now. Give me the M6 and Noctilux any day and I will trust my eyes. I may be slightly out of focus sometimes but at least I get a shot, whilst the F5 AF would still be hunting around for focus. <<< He also wrote: >>> As an F5 user as well as an M6 user, I am now getting more high quality images with the M6 than I ever got with the F5. Then reason is exactly the points that Pascal made. I have in the M6 a camera that does not do auto everything and I therefore have to assess each shooting opportunity and decide the optimum film type and camera settings to get the results I want. As a result, I put more thought into my photography and I therefore produce better images. <SNIP> The M6 is a camera that really does enable an average user to become more proficient and to improve. <<< So, are you ready for a Leicaflex yet? I'm just kidding with you, the F5 is an appropriate tool for many situations, but it's no coincidence that the reasons you mentioned for getting more high-quailty images with the M6 than with the F5 are the same reasons I give to explain why I get more "keepers" with the SL than with automated equipment.
