Although there are some small visible surface scratches, the roll of 12 I shot with it at various apertures seemed pretty good. But it is tough for a leica newbie to buy a used lens. The aperture loosened up considerably by just working it back and forth! For my next newbie question, what on earth do people do for lens protection/caps for the old elmars?
