I keep a large archive of old photo magazines from the 50's, 60's, and 70's
- - Pop Photo, Modern, U.S. Camera, Camera 35. I love the photos and tech
articles from that era, but I am also impressed with the printing quality,
especially in Popular Photography Magazine from the 1950's. Look at the
deep blacks and lustrous whites; the color reproductions have such a
wonderful, "heavy" look too. Today's publications seem so weak. I am
thankful to Bob Schwalberg, Bill Pierce, Ed Meyers and all the others for
giving me an education in photography.
I think growing up with these articles and pictures sparked the need for me
to use Leica rangefinders. I wasn't really happy until I got my M3.
