A dealer at the San Mateo Photo Fair who claimed to have seen an
announcement, said the new model will have no new lines for 24mm or 21mm --
just the 28mm lines where the 35mm lines are on the 0.72, and no 135mm
lines. The idea being to satisfy those who complain that it is too hard to
see the 28mm lines in the 0.72, and not to make a built in 24mm or 21mm
finder. In a way this makes sense, as I was wondering how bad the
viewfinder intrusion would be with the 55mm diameter 21mm and 24mm lenses.
(Or the 60mm diameter pre-ASPH 21.). But, as pointed out, the "whole
finder" method, or estimation of the additional area should work as well --
a 24mm doesn't taken in that much more than a 28mm.

I would appreciate hearing from those who have seen the Contax 21mm finder.
I am thinking of ordering one from Contax parts and selling my Leica 21mm BL
finder. The Leica finder appears to be lower profile and bright, but I
understand that the Contax finder has cross-hairs which could benefit my
weakness in aligning wideangle lenses straight. I have tried using the
framelines in the camera's viewfinder, which is alright with a tripod, but
cumbersome handheld.

Regarding the recent thread regarding off-centered subjects using the BL
finders, a trick to compensate when you have near and far elements, is to
use the main lines for aligning the distant areas, but use the close-up
reference marks for aligning with the near areas of the subject.

Will a .58 be able to show as wide as 21mm angle of view, or 24mm?
