The great advantage to having good equipment is that, if the photo ever looks bad, you _know_ it's your fault, and not any defect or failing of your gear. Although that might at first seem less than pleasant, it is actually quite consoling. It is terribly frustrating to lose the One Great Shot because your equipment just wasn't up to it when you needed it most; at least when it is your own fault, you can say to yourself "I'll do better next time," and you don't have the feeling of being constrained by some external force that prevents you from doing well.
