To add to this subject, few people consider what
happens when you take a camera and lens(es) from a cold
air-conditioned environment out into the humidity. You can
get water ( and pollution ) condensation on the inner lens
air surfaces.
A similar thing happens when photographing in winter
cold and entering a warm building. In this situation I
alway carry along some of the largest size siploc freezer
bags. I put the camera and lens(es) into the bags and seal
them before entering the building. Then they are allowed
many hours to return to room temperature.
