And I understand the issues you point out concerning trying to manage the quality implications of a digital file that could have come from anywhere... My question is more on the philosophy of why a magazine dedicated to B&W photography would ignore a new and emerging source of B&W photography? There is a big range of B&W technology dating back to the earliest photographs. Individual photographers have stopped at the point in B&W evolution that worked for them and or fit their ability to create their own personal images. I have good friends that don't believe in using anything but Azo paper and contact printing from giant negatives using antique cameras...their work is beautiful, I enjoy it, and it works for them...but I also appreciate some of the peizography work done by others that is on the leading edge of B&W technology...seems like there should be room for both. If for no other reason than the fact that many of us have an option of doing digital printing, or not printing at all (no place to put a darkroom, or desire to not put photo chemicals back into the ground water if we aren't on sewers). Ultimately industry standards will emerge that will make digital quality a bit easier to predict. Until then the technical issues can easily be overcome by requiring either origianl prints, or film copies. Photographers that shoot film and then scan can certainly submit a digital print. If you shoot in camera digital, or need PS features to tweak the image, it should be pretty easy to make a film copy of it, or submit a digital print. I like B&W magazine, but I think they are missing the boat on this one. - --- Steve LeHuray <icommag@toad.net> wrote: > > Steve LeHuray said: > > >> Darrell, It seems that is the magazine publishers > decision to make, I have > >> banned all digital images from my own monthly > print magazine, they are too > >> much trouble technically for print. > > It is a BIG problem when your cover photo mysterialy > becomes low-rez and > your time slot has come up to go to press.
