I will second Mark's thoughts on shooting concerts.  It is almost always a
situation where whoever is "front" has a spotlight on them and are many
stops brighter than the surroundings.  Inevitably, unless you have a spot
meter, or know the venue, the "front person(s) are way overexposed causing
loads of fun printing.

I have difficulties imagining metering/processing scenario for a concert
where overexpose/overdevelop makes any sense.  Possibly the guy in the lab
is using a spot meter on very pale skin so that works.  It could also work
with telephoto's and the typical jazz trio where overexposure brings out the
deep shadows typical of those sets.

Definitely look at the guys prints and find out what he is using and how
before you take up his/her techniques.
