Subject: Re: [Leica] For anyone who still thinks that digital isn't really...

I haven't printed a negative yet, but I am interested
in doing it because I am attending a workshop in
September on contact printing on Azo paper by some
photographers that use very large format cameras. By
using Dan's techniques I hope to print some 35mm or
medium format images.

Dan's workshop was great, probably 30% on printing the
negatives (slightly different for silver vs. platinum
printing) and 70% on Photoshop (he is a real master).
Given the cost ($130) I think it was a day well spent.
The take aways were a number of specific photoshop
instructions, plus a disk with all his curves for
making different types of negatives, and screen images
of printer drivers to directly copy his technique.

I was really impressed with his color prints. He
removes the black from the photo in Photoshop, then
prints a color only (no black)ink image. Then he
paints on the platinum photo sensitive emulsion over
the ink print and prints the blacks with a traditional
platinum process...a true hybrid using both mediums on
one sheet of paper...the results were really nice.

Even if you are not interested in copying his process,
it is a great exercise in expanding your thoughts on
what can be done with digital beyond simply running a
standard digital print.
