Along the bottom edges, particularly across the back, the fancy rubberized coating is coming off exposing a darker, black (apparently synthetic) material underneath. I would say, across the back, about 40% of the rubber is missing for about 1/16" either side (up and in) of the edge. The sides show about a 50% loss, while on the other edges (ie: front curved bits and under the lens mount), the amount lost is considerably less, but quite apparent. Not only can you see this loss, you can readily feel it! Yet, upon close examination, there is no signs of any physical damage in the spots where the coating has worn off. It is simply shiny and smooth, similar to the 'brassing' of an older chrome finish. As a result, the bottom of my R8 now looks tackier than my 'old' R6 or even my recently acquired SL! I baby my cameras, so I find this very distressing. Has anyone else had this problem? Or am I alone in this? TIA. - ---------- David Young | A man who gives in when wrong - is wise.
