As usual it did not turn up. However I did purchase a very nice all metal Davidson Star D tripod at an attractive price. Also included were 2 ballheads (1/4 and 3/8). One is of the Prazision brand, the other is engraved H.B FRANCE. Now the reason the gentleman was selling these at such a price was that the items were in an incredibly dirty condition. No damage was done but they must have spent decades in a basement. I have started to clean the thing and it s beginning to look really cool. Since this tripod spent so much time in a basement, the greases have solidified and the various levers and buttons (remember, this is an all metal thing) are hard to work. I plan to make the tuning up of this tripod a project for the coming automn, it needs to be disassembled and re-lubed. So, knowledgeable folks of the LUG, what are the pitfalls to avoid when disassembling such a thing? Is it worth the trouble? What kind of lubricant ought to be used? Any advice most welcome.
