This shot would definitely benefit from a bit more work in the darkroom. When I printed it, I was concerned with making sure that I kept the detail in the highlights on the right hand side of the face and at the same time retaining as much detail in Nigel's shirt and the tractor. I think I need to think about how I print for scanning as well as how I print for viewing. When I print, I always go for the shortest exposure that gives me good highlight detail and then modify the grade to get the shadow detail right. This may explain why it looks light on the screen.
