It's a whole new camera body. The Rx body is designed for film. It has two film chambers, a film winding mechanism, and a film gate that is designed for film. It would be far better for Leica (or any manufacturer) to basically start from scratch. A digital camera is far more than the CCD/CMOS sensor. It is the electronics, batteries, and digital image storage, as well as the camera control interfaces to these electronics that take up most of the room.
