Hopefully they threw in a new coat of red paint with the new lens. I grew up in '50s and '60s in the Bronx in a house that had a pretty terrific view of the bridge, though about 4.5 miles away (252-161=91 blocks=4.55 miles). The lights on the cables (the towers weren't lit at that time) twinkled more or less depending on the amount of intervening smog. Things have changed (the Clean Air Act). It was a fun bike trip down to the lighthouse but, even in the '70s, the place was unmanned and getting kind of rundown. - ---Peter - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
