Actually, John Shaw of nature photography fame advocates using a clear north
sky(in the northern hemisphere) to calibrate in camera meters.  This is more
for consistency camera to camera.  The idea is to adjust the ASA dial until
all your camera's match so slides match on the light table.  Also useful
when you are out and about and are getting funny readings:  clear sky in
mid-morning or mid afternoon and the meter should read 1/film speed at F16.
