From my experience, tremendously, and is one of the primary reasons I use a Leica M. The other reasons are the fast glass and small size...oh yeah, and quiet operation. I can compare images from my Contax RTSIII, which is very heavy, with my Contax Aria, same lense...and the RTSIII images are noticeably sharper...so it is more than simply the lack of a mirror in the Leica M.
