Roland, your answer is in two parts.  If you are using older FD lenses you
can push the aperture lever all the way over and it will lock in place so
that the lens stops down as you change the aperture.  If you are using the
new FD lenses then you will need a small piece that Canon made "Manual
Diaphragm Adapter which will hold the lever over so that the lens stops
down.

I have only seen one of these and that was very old stock at a now defunct
store in KC.  But now that you know what you are looking for, who knows, it
might fall into your hands.
