By the time you hit F4 it is pretty sharp although not crisp or contrasty. Get past F2 and its out of focus rendering is very pleasant. Wide open it has a very different character. See http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=989539 I find the Summarit to be a truly special lens. As a normal lens it is very nice past F2.8. You can pick up fairly clean ones at prices less than a LTM Summicron. When you move to the range from F1.5 to F2 it has a unique look that can be used to advantage. For example, imagine about 25mm of extension mounted on an SLR wide open; especially with some bright highlights in the background. I'm thinking rain in a pine tree after the sun comes out.
