I agree with Martin.  Since I have used the analogy before, and since I
still consider it apt, here goes: if 100 monkeys turn out 300 pages of
crap, is picking out a page or two or twelve where the random typing
created a word considered "editing"?

Seriously.  You can do better than this.

You claim to have set out to discover something about the editing 
process.  In order to do this, you shot 300 more or less random 
pictures without looking through the viewfinder.  Twelve self-selected 
people then took it upon themselves to select (or as you call it, 
"edit") up to ten images and mail you their selections.
