(no, unfortunately) There is absolutely NO advantage to the military to permit media access to hot combat zone, since they cannot predict what the media will find there, and it is extremely unlike to be flattering (dead bodies are like that). The only circumstances under which they will allow it are (a) when they are forced to by orders from above, generally political or (b) they want to sabotage the politicians who have got them into this mess or (c) they are trying to leverage themselves over another rival branch of the armed forces.
