It is HUGE when opened, but really doesn't interfere with the viewfinder view. And it collapses down to something very compact that you can slip into your pocket or leave closed up on the end of your lens like some bizarre lenscap. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone pointed at my camera with the collapsed flat black hood on it and asked me if this was some prototype digital camera.
