It is founded, funded, organized, and run by Brian Reid. As such, he is free to set any rules or guidelines he chooses and we, as participants, are free to choose to abide by them, or to leave, and possibly set up our own email list. I, for one, happen to agree with Brian on this issue, for a number of reasons. eBay tends to drive up prices, because of the psychology of auctions. Offering something for sale, at a fixed price, on the LUG on Fridays is one thing. Sending a message to the LUG about an auction that you have on eBay and asking interested people to "participate" in it is quite another. As pointed out, we all know where eBay is. We all know how to bid on and buy stuff from eBay. And if we are interested in participating in that feeding frenzy (as many of us have been in the past, myself included), then we'll happily surf over there and check it out. As for the "capitalist-imperialists" of Leica posting information on this list, this *is* after all the LUG -- the Leica Users Group -- and not the EUG -- eBay Users Group. So, perhaps the policy isn't so skewed, after all. M. - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
