Richard -

I have compared prints made both ways and cannot tell a difference.  I 
usually do Levels corrections in 16 bit and then convert to 8 bit.  8 bit 
files are much faster to work with and only take half as much storage 
space.  There are quite a few PS actions that cannot be done in 16 bit even 
with PS 7.
