One uses a lever and the Canon uses micromotors. You are correct that there is no coupling. However, in actual practice, the aperture on the Leitz lens stops down as you move the aperture ring and in the "A" mode the Canon body will set the appropriate shutter speed. Screen brightness is as good as an SL(focus confirmation much worse however) so even somewhere around F8 most people can still focus. Sorry to have been unclear.
