Are any of you scanning > formats larger than 35mm? Maybe as high as 4x5? You might want to consider a Leafscan 45. It's an older scanner, but is still better than most any available scanner except the high end Imacon. It'll scan anything up to 4x5, as it uses standard Beseler 45 film holders. 35mm gets scanned at 5080SPI, MF at 2540 and LF at 1200. It's speed for B&W is near equal to that of newer scanners, but is 3x slower for color (it makes 3 passes). If you scan mostly B&W, it scans B&W using a single channel with neutral density filter...which is different than any other scanner that scans in RGB and converts to grayscale internally. Personally, I have found the Leaf beats any other CCD scanner for B&W because of the use of the ND filter. It works under Mac and PC. For Mac it's SCSI or GPIB, for PC it's GPIB only. The software is a little dated, but works fine, and in fact, may even be better/easier to use than most other software, if you know how to use it. They can be found on eBay for well under $2k. If you decide to buy one, make sure it's got firmware 4.1, and get one that comes with the rotating film holders...and that it's in great condition. Best is to buy one from Steve Helber or Rick Fontaine (email addresses available on request ;-), as they will guarantee the units are in top condition. The downside to the Leaf is it's 85 lbs...so if it's going to be shipped, make sure it's got the original shipping container, or it'll likely get damaged in shipment.
