I would just send it in. A year or so ago there were rumors of a Leica "fix" for the white out problem but no signs of it yet. The M7 has coated viewfinder windows which help somewhat. The M7 windows can be fitted to an M6TTL but I do not know if Leica has started to sell these as spare parts yet. You can also just put a small bit of tape in the center of the finder illumination window.
