Randy, Physical size of the sensor is only partially responsible for the depth of field, but in the opposite way that would help in this case. Smaller formats require smaller CoCs (Circle of Confusion), which means less DOF. The lense is the other part of the equation, and the lense required to be used to get the image sized correctly with a smaller sensor would be a wider angle lense, which has higher DOF.
