Tried the hood and it does not fix this problem. Thought one of the newer
UV with the super multi-coatings would help reduce the tendency. I hear
the latest Hoya and H+K MRC filters are really good in this area.

A filter will only increase flare, not decrease it (more surfaces to
bounce off of). The problem isn't UV light bouncing around, it's
visible light.
Try a lens hood, does wonders.
