There is a light meter. The rest of the workings of the machine are mechanical (shutter is mechanically controlled as opposed to the electronically controlled shutter in the M7). So the purists won't have something absolutely pure, but it's more pure than what they've had! When I think of purely mechanical, I think of my Hasselblad 501c. There ain't nuttin' in that camera but mechanics. It will work even when hell freezes over. Of course, the likelihood of that happening is pretty slim, so why not enjoy some different features in different cameras? Works for me. When my batteries die, and I have no meter (and only two shutter speeds in the M7), I still manage to make pictures. I struggle though, especially without the light meter.
