Present were: Tom and Tuulikki Abrahamsson, Peter Choy, Joe (a LUG lurker) and Aida Vorlicek, Doug Doyle, Ted and Irene Grant, Sandy Carter, Greg Lorenzo and my wife Tanya and I. Peter arrived Friday afternoon from San Francisco and called me. I told him that I would be delighted to have supper with him, but that I had just managed to get a ticket to hear Huun Huur Tu, a Tuvan throat-singing ensemble for that evening at eight. Peter asked if I might still be able to get him a ticket, and I did; getting just about the last one. So I picked him up at his hotel and drove him a bit around Vancouver. Then came the Mexican food, and off to the concert, which was sold out. It was a great performance. Unfortunately, it was in a church with rather poor lighting and sightlines, but the music was wonderful. Tom had said that he would have some space on his table to set up my stuff to sell at the swap meet, and I wanted to make good use of that. Needless to say, I found quite a bit. In the afternoon we congregated at Tom and Tuulikki's, each bringing a beverage of choice, and T&T provided snacks of lovely cheeses, bread, fruit and olives. Ted brought Lagavullin, Peter brought some great California wine and I brought my own concocted salted licorice liquor (an acquired taste, which at least Tuulikki has acquired). We did a good job on the wonderful snacks, and then it was off to dinner where finally all of us got together. Dinner seemed to take a while - I think about four hours or so. Leicas abounded and everyone admired Tom's 35/1.2 Nokton. Next morning it was off to the swap meet. As yesterday, today was dreary and rainy, so walking around taking pictures wasn't contemplated. Good to go to a swap meet. I hauled my stuff to the table. Tom had 3 or 4 Leica lenses and a Bessa L for sale, and a part time Contax. This was good, as that meant there was room for nearly all my stuff. 4 tripods, 8 heads, a Sinar-p with lots of fixin's, 2 Nikons with 8 lenses, a silver Rollei 35S, a 21/3.4 SA, 40/2.8 Focotar and 25 to 35 miscellaneous items. I had hoped to walk around a bit more to see what others had, but there were always lots of people crowded aroung my stuff so I didn't see much of what others had. I even sold a fair bit: 3 tripods and heads (one to Ted Grant), a couple of lenses and a number of miscellaneous items. The most popular was a very tiny Gitzo head, which was so 'cute' as a number of people mentioned, that I shortly had to raise the price. All the people (less female partners) of the evening before were present, and seemed to have a good time. In November we have another Cameras Show and Swap meet. I'll haul some stuff there again, but I think I'll get the table and let Tom have some of it! - -- * Henning J.
