I use DDX diluted 1+9 with Neopan 1600 (rated @ 1000-1200). Develop with
minimal agitation at 68-70 F for 8 min with high contrast subjects (outdoors
in shade, sporting event at night etc) or 10 min with low contrast scenes
(indoors at home or at parties, weddings etc). The grain is better at this
dilution than Xtol and the extra dilution on the DDX makes it more
affordable.

You can get full 1600 with this scheme by developing 12 min but the contrast
is pretty high.
