I meter the light by hand, set the exposure and then concentrate solely on composition and focus. If I think the light has changed since my meter reading I make an educated guess or meter again. At first I thought it might be cumbersome to meter everything by hand, but now I find it rather liberating. Tom - -----Original Message----- Erik, I tend to set the exposure first, then focus. Most of the time the light does not change that rapidly, so I prefer to concentrate on keeping the subject in focus by having the exposure pre-set. If I am photographing "rocks and ferns" then it does not matter.
