I have owned both lenses. I kept the F1.4 because I shoot slow film and
shoot in a lot of dark places (careful now, keep it "G" rated.)

The output appears to be identical optically at the same F stop... so if you
like ( or dislike) one lens, the other will have the same effect on you.
They are remarkably different from the 3rd version pre-ASPH Summicron...
The newer lenses offer better "fidelity" but less "character". I kept my
older lens pre-ASPH as well just because I like the smallness and especially
the "look" of the older Summicron.

The issue of which to buy? The 1.4 is a LOT heavier and bigger overall. It
is 1 stop faster. SO if you a lot of low light stuff, or want higher
shutter speeds, then the F1,4 is the choice. If you want less weight and
most of your shots are daytime, and the speed of the shutter is fine with
you, then the F2 is the better choice. If you have a extra $1000 ( new) or
$600 ( used) burning a hole in your pocket, buy the F2 and send the money to
me.
