I was there early this morning when a local cable TV news channel did a short piece on the exhibit. The 1967 Ferrari 330/365 GTC that I bought in 1978 when it was just an old used sports car and I could afford it, is one of the cars on loan. For cognoscenti, also on exhibit are a 1949 Type 166 Barchetta, an F40, a 1962 type 250GT short wheelbase, a Ferrari-engined Indy roadster prepared for Nino Farina, then World Champion, to run the Indy 500 in 1952, the 365GTB4 Daytona that Dan Gurney and Brock Yates drove during the first Cannonball Run, a 312 PB, the model that won the world sports car championship for Ferrari in 1972. It's a lovely exhibit and only a part of what is on display. One of the Museum' missions is educating visitors on the automotive history and heritage of New York State. Who knew, for example, that from the late 19th Century until World War II New York State was home to over 150 automobile manufacturers. Most were tiny, building fewer than 100 cars. But the State was the most important car producer until Henry Ford opened his first plant at River Rouge near Detroit. Worth a visit for car-lovers in the area. The Museum is having a black-tie Gala Dinner the evening of Friday 16 May that will be fun for anyone automotively inclined. Featured will be a retrospective Ferrari reminiscence with Luig Chinetti, Jr., son of the man who back in 1949 persuaded Enzo Ferrari to build road-going cars to support his racing operation, Brock Yates and David E. Davis, two of the most prominent Automotive writers in the U.S. For more info email me off-list or go to the Museum website: www.saratogaautomuseum.com Seth LaK 9 - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
