True enough, the 21-35-90 combination is hard to beat for overall 
versatility. But the funny thing is, the older I get, the more I have 
come to respect the humble - or not so humble - 50mm. It has become, 
for me, maybe going backwards a little, the Leica equivalent of the 
ubiquitous "28-80mm f1:somethingtiny" zoom lens seemingly supplied with 
every SLR the last ten years or so. While admitting the limitations of 
the walking zoom - ie stepping back or getting closer - if I'm going to 
grab one lens, not knowing what I will encounter, it will be a 50mm.

Who just bought a very nice 50mm f2.8 to compliment his - relatively - 
bulky Summilux 50. Fits nicely into a mini Billingham...
